Date of Response: 15/04/2011
Request:
Under the Freedom of Information Act, I wished to make a request regarding the number of data breaches that had been reported to the ICO since April 6th 2010.

Based on the ICO’s own news releases, I know that the number of reported breaches reached 1,000 around May 28, 2010 and, from reading previous FoI requests in the website’s “Disclosure” section, I understand that the number was 1,296 as of December 3rd 2010 (http://www.ico.gov.uk/about_us/what_we_do/request_information_from_us/~/media/documents/disclosure_log/IRQ0360481.ashx)

Would it be possible to receive:

  • The total number of data breaches reported to the ICO as of the present date (ca. March 22nd 2011)
  • (If possible) The total number of data breaches reported to the ICO as of April 6th 2010
  • (If possible) The number of data breaches reported to the ICO between April 6th 2010 and the present
  • (If possible) The division of these breaches by sector, although I understand that this is part of the standard presentation.

Any help you could give in this matter would be most appreciated.

Request:
I would firstly like to know how many case resolution officers you have in your organisation, and secondly, how many have ISEB qualifications, or are trained to ISEB standards in FOIA and DPA.

To avoid confusion with regard to the term 'case resolution officers', I mean staff who deal with complaints made to the ICO and issue decisions notices.
