27 September 2022 - We have now published a summary of responses to our call for views, and our response to stakeholder engagement.

The ICO is committed to the principles of open data, and recognises the value of making data that we collect and create available to the public where possible. This also helps us to comply with our obligations under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and deliver wider benefits to society as envisaged in the National Data Strategy.

One of the areas we are looking at is our breach reporting data and how it is presented. Last year we launched a new dashboard, which can be seen on our website. It contains a summary of the trends and the ability to break the data down by quarter, sector and incident type. We now want to understand whether the data we publish is useful, and how we can improve it.

The data we hold comes primarily from our breach reporting form. There are some legal and technical challenges that limit what we are able to collect and publish. However, within these limitations, we are committed to proactively publishing more of our data, where it is justified and responsible to do so.
