The Common Thread Network (CTN) is pleased to announce that Mrs Teki Akuetteh Falconer has been appointed as new co-chair alongside Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham.
The CTN is a forum for data protection and privacy authorities of Commonwealth countries. It was established to promote cross-border co-operation and knowledge sharing on emerging trends, risks, regulatory changes and best practice.
Teki Akuetteh Falconer is the Executive Director and Member of the Board of the Data Protection Commission of Ghana. She was the ICT Legal Expert in the Ministry of Communications under the eGhana Project and was instrumental in ensuring the adoption and implementation of the Data Protection Act 2012 in Ghana.
“I am honoured and excited to be taking on the role of co-chair of the network on behalf of the Data Protection Commission. The CTN’s objectives to promote cross-border co-operation and build capacity for effective data protection are paramount to the Ghanaian Data Protection Commission.
“I am hopeful our experience will serve as a leading example to all states across the Commonwealth that are currently thinking about implementing legislation or establishing a governing body for data protection and privacy.”
Teki succeeds Privacy Commissioner of Canada Daniel Therrien as co-chair, and will formally begin her new role alongside Ms Denham following the CTN’s annual general meeting in September.
Ms Denham said:
“I am sure you will join me in welcoming our new co-chair and wishing her every success in shaping the CTN’s future.
“The Canada OPC will continue to be involved in the development of the network and I want to thank Daniel Therrien and his staff for their outstanding contribution over the past three years.”
