Purpose and lawful basis for processing
The lawful basis we rely on for processing your contact details is your consent under article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR.
What we need
Email address – so we can contact you about user research opportunities.
Demographic information such as gender, age and website accessibility, requirements and information about your employment. We ask for this information so when we conduct research we can ensure we have a good cross-section of participants.
Behavioral and attitudinal information such as use of computers, use of the ICO website, level of concern and knowledge of data protection issues. We ask for this information so when we conduct research we can ensure we are working with participants with a variety of behaviors and attitudes that might influence their experiences with the ICO’s website and work.
What we do with it
We will use your email address to communicate with you about ICO user research.
We will use the demographic, behavioral and attitudinal information you provide to make selections for user research groups. This will involve using the data to ensure a varied cross section of participants. It might also involve segmenting audiences where we require a specific group of people – eg people working in a particular sector.

What are your rights?
We rely on your consent to process your contact details. This means you have the right to withdraw your consent, or to object to the processing of your personal data for this purpose at any time. If at any point you want to withdraw your consent please email or call us 0303 123 1113. If you do that, we’ll update our records immediately to reflect your wishes.

Do we use any data processors?
We will use Snap Surveys to gather demographic, behavioural and attitudinal information on our behalf - it will be clear if we are using Snap Surveys. Any data collected by Snap Surveys for ICO is stored on UK servers. You can read their Privacy Policy here.
We may share information with our contracted user research agency.
