Contact the ICO
Based on your answers, it is unclear whether the home CCTV user is breaking data protection law.
If a camera captures footage of you in your home, on the street or in a shared space, you can ask the CCTV user to stop capturing footage of you.
However, the user can legally refuse if the nature of the CCTV system makes this difficult. For example, if they cannot adjust the position of the smart doorbell, or they need to capture images of the street in order to secure their property.
If you are unsure if their refusal is legal, then you can contact the ICO to talk about your concerns. Call our helpline on 0303 123 1113 or use our live chat.
