If searching your name on the internet brings back a link to information about you, and this is having a negative effect on your privacy, you can ask the search provider to remove it. If they refuse, you can ask us to look at it.
What can I expect?
We will look at whether the information returned in the search results breaches the data protection principles, for example because it is inaccurate, inadequate, irrelevant or excessive. We will also look at whether the public interest in having access to it outweighs the effect it is having on you. When appropriate, we will inform the search provider that the results should be removed.
Even if search providers remove a link, they can’t delete the information from the webpage, or take the webpage off the internet. To have the information removed completely, you will have to ask the webmaster. Again, though, the webmaster won’t necessarily have to take the information down just because you object to it.
