We have started a review to understand how personal data is being processed for the purposes of journalism.

This is a statutory review under Section 178 of the Data Protection Act 2018, and it will help us understand how the media industry has been using and complying with personal information since the new data protection laws came into effect in May 2018.

We are keen to hear from journalists and data protection professionals in the news and media sectors through an online questionnaire, which should take no more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete. We welcome participation from large and small organisations, as well as freelancers and independent professionals.

The questions in the online questionnaire are around universal data protection themes, including data sharing, governance, records management, remote working and security.

This work will help us understand how personal data is used for the purposes of journalism. It will also provide valuable insight into how we can support this sector going forward.

Please complete the online questionnaire by 14 October 2022. Responses submitted after the deadline may not be considered.
