More empathetic support for victims of sensitive data breaches
Ripple Effect, a campaign to humanise data breaches and improve how organisations respond, has helped increase public confidence in exercising their rights and prompted many organisations to reconsider their approach.
We created a one-page guide explaining people’s rights and what they could do if they experienced a sensitive data breach. 89% of respondents said they found it clear and easy to use — which shows that accessible resources like this empower individuals to exercise their rights and encourage accountability.
We shared the one-pager with 210 organisations. Of these, 24%, including Citizens Advice and Age UK, shared it with frontline teams including call handlers. Following 15 speaker slots reaching over 3,600 people, organisations began embedding campaign content into internal training.
We continue to engage with stakeholders, so they are empowered to support their audiences. For example, we’re starting work with parliamentarians to ensure they are better placed to support constituents who are worried about a data breach.
40% of support organisations say we’ve enabled them to provide better support to victims experiencing data breaches.
“The best example of humanising data breaches I have seen” – Data and Marketing Association
Our campaign and easy-to-follow resources led 62% of the organisations we reached to say they’ve reconsidered how they approach data breaches.
