- Decision(s) FOI 24: Not upheld
The complainant requested information being withheld from a Home Office (HO) file now generally available to members of the public and held at The National Archives (TNA). The withheld information related to the activities of informants paid by the government of the day to inform against Irish secret societies in the late 19th century. The Commissioner’s decision is that HO withheld the information correctly by relying on the section 24(1) FOIA exemption and correctly concluded that the balance of the public interest favoured maintaining the exemption. The Commissioner did not require HO to take any further action to comply with the legislation. Information Tribunal appeal GIA/3119/2015 dismissed.
