The complainant requested information relating to the Universal Jobmatch website run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The DWP refused the request under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) because it considered that the request exceeded the appropriate cost limit. The Commissioner’s decision is that the DWP has incorrectly applied section 12, and that the work required to comply with the request would not exceed the appropriate cost limit.
The Commissioner requires the public authority to take the following steps to ensure compliance with the legislation. Issue a new response to the complainant which does not refuse the request under section 12.
