  • Decision(s) FOI 31: Partly upheld

The complainant has requested information on the training provided in relation to assessing benefit claims for specified conditions. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) disclosed information with redactions made on the basis of section 31(1)(a), prevention or detection of crime. The Commissioner’s decision is that section 31(1)(a) is engaged with regard to the disputed information but that the public interest favours disclosure of some of this information. The Commissioner considers that the public interest favours maintaining the exemption for the remainder of the information. The Commissioner requires DWP to disclose the information with the exception of the information specified in the confidential annex. The public authority must take these steps within 30 calendar days of the date of this decision notice. Failure to comply may result in the Commissioner making written certification of this fact to the High Court pursuant to section 54 of the Act and may be dealt with as a contempt of court.
