The complainant has requested transcripts or records of meetings held with Chinese government officials since September 2024 from HM Treasury (HMT). HMT refused to provide this information citing section 12 as its basis doing so.  The Commissioner’s decision is that HMT is entitled to rely on section 12 as its basis for refusing to provide the requested information. HMT also complied with its obligations under section 16 (advice and assistance) in its handling of the request. The Commissioner does not require further steps.
