The complainant has requested information on the nationalities of people detained at UK short term detention facilities in northern France, during 2024. The Home Office disclosed the total number of detentions and the top five nationalities, but it refused to provide total numbers for each nationality, citing sections 31(1)(a) and (e) (Law enforcement) of FOIA. The Commissioner’s decision is that sections 31(1)(a) and (e) are not engaged. The Commissioner requires the Home Office to disclose the total number of detentions from 1 January 2024 - 31 December 2024, broken down by nationality.
