The UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals.

In July 2018 the Information Commissioner launched an investigation into the data broking sector, specifically the provision of offline direct marketing services by key data brokers including the three largest credit reference agencies (CRAs) – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

We concluded our investigation into the data broking activities of the CRAs, however, we continue to investigate other organisations in this sector. This page will be updated as this investigation progresses.
