Data protection fee self assessment

You need to pay £52

Based on your answers, you are required to pay the data protection fee. Organisations that have stopped trading but still store personal information need to pay the fee until the information is deleted or destroyed.

You are in tier one, which means your fee will be £52.

If you've only received a notice of intention to issue a monetary penalty, you only have to pay the annual data protection fee and not a penalty. Once you've paid the fee, our records will automatically update and you will not be given a monetary penalty notice.

How to pay

If you pay your fee annually by credit or debit card, cheque or BACS, please follow the instructions on our payment page.

You can also set up a direct debit with us. Organisations that pay by direct debit get a £5 discount on your fee.

If you have an existing direct debit and your tier hasn't changed, your registration will be automatically renewed so you don't need to take any action and can exit this self assessment.

No matter how you pay your fee, if the amount you need to pay this year is different from the amount you paid last year - you must let us know before renewing your fee.

On Monday 17 February the cost of the data protection fee increased following a government consultation on proposed changes.  Further information including the new rates can be found at Changes to the data protection fee.
