7. Is your organisation a public authority?

A public authority is an organisation whose function is of a public nature. For example:

  • government departments, legislative bodies and the armed forces;
  • local government;
  • National Health Service (NHS) including trusts, local health boards and clinical commissioning groups;
  • maintained schools, academy schools and further and higher education institutions;
  • police;
  • principal councils;
  • parish councils;
  • fire and rescue authorities; and
  • passenger transport executives.
