The UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals.

Use this service to pay or renew your annual fee for data protection.

Please note: If you haven’t completed an application form already, please go to our ‘Register’ page or click here.

We email organisations six weeks before their fee expires. If you have been contacted by us recently and you need to renew your fee there are a number of payment options available.

How can I pay?

Direct debit

If you pay by direct debit there is a £5 reduction of the fee.

To set up a direct debit electronically, you’ll need your order reference and registration reference (we sent these as part of your application or renewal correspondence). Once you have these, please use the following link:

Pay by direct debit

If you are unable to use this service, you can download a direct debit instruction:

We accept scanned copies of the direct debit instruction. These can be emailed in a PDF format to [email protected]. When sending the direct debit instruction to us please put ‘Completed direct debit’ in the subject line.

Please note: Ensure the direct debit instruction is signed, dated and includes your registration reference.

When you set up a direct debit, the payment will be taken for this year’s payment as well as subsequent years.

Credit or debit card

Tip: if you are having trouble making an online payment, sometimes it can help to change the browser you are using.

If you'd prefer to pay online, you'll need your order reference and registration reference (we sent these as part of your application or renewal correspondence).

Tip: only click ‘Pay’ once, and don’t refresh your page while your payment is being processed, as you may pay twice.

Pay by card

It's cheaper for you if you pay by direct debit, but you can pay by cheque. Please make your cheque payable to the Information Commissioner’s Office, and write your registration reference on the back.

If you choose to send a cheque, please send it to the following address:

FAO Data Protection Fees Team
Information Commissioner’s Office
Wycliffe House
Water Lane

If you prefer to pay by BACS please ensure that your registration reference is included with your payment. For the payment of multiple registrations please send remittance advice or a covering email to [email protected]. If the registration reference is not included on your remittance advice we will not be able to allocate the payment and you will not be registered.
