Section 22 - a decision-making tool

The section 22 FOIA exemption is designed to help you prepare information you intend to publish in the future, free from the disruption of reviewing it specifically to respond to a request. This tool doesn’t cover the section 22A FOIA exemption on information obtained from research.

Your responses to the questions are for your use only and will not be shared with the ICO.

Before you use the tool, please be aware that we’ve made the following assumptions to make it relevant and useful:

• you hold the requested information at the time of the request, and you can confirm this to the requester; 
• you’re not planning to apply any other exemption to the information you intend to publish; and
• you’re satisfied that the requested information is not environmental information under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
