The UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals.

We are launching a new round of secondment opportunities within the ICO legal teams for privacy lawyers and/or lawyers with relevant contentious experience.

These openings offer an exciting opportunity for firms and junior lawyers alike: secondees will form an integral part of the ICO Legal Service and have the opportunity to play a key role in delivering the Information Commissioner’s aims and strategic goals through casework, enforcement work, policy work or litigation.

Application Details

Secondments are open to all UK and EU qualified lawyers currently employed in a law firm with privacy law experience, or experience of relevant contentious law matters.

We aim to offer the successful secondees a range of work suitable for their level of experience and to provide relevant training as part of the role.

The ICO will contribute a flat rate towards the cost of secondees with further details available on request.

The secondments will run for 6 months commencing Monday 5 September 2022 (subject to necessary on-boarding checks and secondment agreements).

Firms that would like to put candidates forward should email the candidate’s CV (with any personal information redacted – personal details should be recorded on the attached Personal Details form) and a brief covering letter outlining the candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills and experience. Please mark the email “Legal Secondment Opportunity” and send to [email protected]. The deadline for applications is Sunday, 17 July 2022 at 6pm.

Candidates should be available for a call with the ICO during the week commencing 25 – 29 July 2022.

Please note we will not consider applications via agencies.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the benefits of the programme please contact Kate Range.
