The ICO exists to empower you through information.

You only have to pay the penalty, if you’ve been sent a monetary penalty notice.

If you’ve had a letter or email that says:

"NOTICE OF INTENTION TO ISSUE A PENALITY NOTICE UNDER THE DATA PROTECTION ACT 2019 AND THE DATA PROTECTION (CHARGES AND INFORMATION) REGULATIONS 2018"

You just need to pay the annual data protection fee (between £40-£2900).

You must pay by the deadline referenced in the Notice of Intent. Once paid, our records will be automatically updated and you will not be given a monetary penalty notice.

You can find out how much you need to pay using our self assessment or you can pay now.

How to pay a penalty

If you have been given a monetary penalty notice, you need to pay by BACS.

You must include your registration reference with your payment. If it's not included on your remittance advice, we'll not be able to allocate the payment and it will not be recorded that you've paid your penalty.

The details you need to make a BACS payment are:
