How long will it take?

We process renewals payments within a couple of days of receipt. Confirmation will be sent out once the payment has been processed.

How much does it cost?

The cost of your data protection registration depends on your size and turnover but for most businesses it costs £35. The payment is always VAT:nil

You'll only need to pay £500 if you have:

  • a turnover of £25.9M and more than 249 members of staff; or
  • if you are a public authority with more than 249 members of staff.

Some organisations only pay £35 regardless of their size and turnover. These are:

  • Charities;
  • small occupational pension schemes; and
  • organisations that have been in existence for less than one month.

You can use our fee-assessment tool to find out how much you will need to pay.

How can I pay?

Direct debit

We will send you a direct debit form with your application confirmation or renewal reminder.

Lost your direct debit form or need another one? Download a direct debit form:

Credit or debit card

If you'd prefer to pay online, you'll need your order reference and registration reference (we sent these as part of your registration confirmation or renewal reminder).

It's cheaper for us if you pay by direct debit, but you can pay by cheque. Please make your cheque payable to the Information Commissioner’s Office, and write your application reference number or registration number on the back.

Due to the high cost we no longer accept BACS payments.
